Frequently Asked Questions
I know event planning can be stressful! To make things easier, below are some of our most frequently asked questions regarding custom cakes and placing orders with Amelia Elaine Cakes.
Do you require orders to be placed in advance?
Yes! Amelia Elaine Cakes is a home-based bakery so requesting your cake order ahead of time is a must. We prefer at least 2 weeks' notice for orders but will accommodate last-minute orders if possible with an associated rush fee.
Is a deposit required when placing an order?
Once you have decided to move forward with placing an order from Amelia Elaine Cakes, I will send you an invoice via Square which can be paid via debit/credit card. All orders under $100 must be paid in full at the time of booking in order to confirm your order and reserve the date. All orders over $100 require a 20% non-refundable deposit and the remaining balance is due two weeks prior to the order date.
Do you offer delivery?
Yes! We offer Free delivery within 10 miles of the Longfellow area of Minneapolis, 55406. Additional delivery rates apply based on distance. The set order pickup location is off E Lake St in Minneapolis. We recommend delivery for cakes 2 tiers or larger.
Will my cake come in a box?
Yes! All cakes and cupcakes will come in a provided box that fits the specific size of cake. Cakes will also be placed on stable cake boards or drums so the cake can be removed from the box.
Do you use fondant on cakes?
Our cakes are filled and covered with American-style buttercream. We do not offer cakes completely covered in fondant. Fondant will occasionally be used, in minimal amounts, to help achieve certain design features on cakes and cupcakes but will not be wrapped in a complete layer of fondant.
Do you offer wedding cake tasting boxes?
At this time we do not offer custom tasting boxes but are in the process of adding this service on a quarterly basis for interested couples!
How should I transport my cake when I pick it up?
When transporting your cake, please place the cake box on a flat surface, not in lap, seat, or dashboard. Drive slowly with AC on to ensure your car is cool.
How should I store my cake?
Cakes should be stored in the fridge until an hour before serving and should be consumed within 5 days. Once cut, ideally store your cake in an airtight container in the fridge. Where fresh fruit and florals have been used, we recommend these items be removed from the cake within 24 hours. Cupcakes should be stored in a cool place, out of direct sunlight, and should be consumed within 5 days. To keep your cupcakes fresh, please transfer to an airtight container.
